Visser & Smit Hanab SA/NV got started in 1947 as a family business specialising in the laying of water pipelines under the name Aquavia SA/NV. Gradually the construction of waste water collectors and sewers was added. Aquavia SA/NV subsequently became active in the construction of water treatment plants and the design of swimming pools.
In 1976 the burgeoning company was acquired by the Dutch “Koninklijke Volker Wessels Stevin” group. In 2000 Aquavia SA/NV became part of Visser & Smit Hanab SA/NV.
Four years later the Sint-Gillis-Waas division (industrial cabling and industry/piping) was added, and all Belgian activities were combined under the new name Visser & Smit Hanab SA/NV.
From that point on, the company began to focus increasingly on working for industry. In just a short stretch of time Visser & Smit Hanab SA/NV was able to acquire almost all the major companies in the Antwerp and Ghent port areas as customers. Visser & Smit Hanab SA/NV has now also become a major player in the construction of large-scale power cable routes. The activities in the past that made the company what it is remain just as important today.
